Aiiison 300MH trany service

Our 2004 Cheetah has 73K on it and I have owned it since 2007. Is it time to change the Transynd fluid and filters? Not having any problems to date. Any ideas of what this service might cost?

I don't see how you can change the transmission filters and install 19 quarts of TranSynd especially when the fluid is roughly 70 bucks a gallon

I paid no where's near that per gallon.
Also I think for me personally the torque value for the filter bolts are to much.
Next time I do mine I will not use a torque wrench I will just snug up and go by feel.
I dodged a bullet when this one snapped and I was able to remove.

  • I paid $39.95 a gallon for Transynd from the local Allison shop and I think $57 for the filter kit. Napa wanted over $129 for the filters and they did not have Transynd. It might have been $279 total I will look up the receipt.

You must be buying RV dealer Transynd @$70...good truck shop/Allison usually $35-$45.

    Shop around some... :)

  • I just did this service myself it is actually pretty simple and cost me $179 for filters and oil. I actually got my best price on parts from an authorized dealer for Allison. I called a Freightliner shop they told me it would cost between $200 and $800 I figured since they could nail it down any closer than that I would do it myself.

There is a good youtube video about it. If you can change your own oil you can do this. I was a mechanic years ago so it was no big deal but I have to say anyone with the skill to change their own motor oil can do this it was the easiest transmission I ever serviced. It just takes a bunch of oil 19 quarts. I bought a brand new oil pan that holds 9 gallons and has wheels to move it under the MH and pull it out. The oil drain pan has a ball valve in the bottom to drain the oil into containers to get rid of it.

    Allison 3000 oil change
  • Yeah i think your probably past due but dont panic the easy use in RVs
is so much less strain and wear than in a commerical vehicle you probably
could go another 73k mi and be ok .
Now don't do that just get it serviced soon .
  • Past time, I'd say. Go to the Allison website and check the service intervals.
  • Like tires, fluids age out as well as wear out. You are WAY overdue.
