The air intake for my coach is on the roof, so I would imagine water can get in sometimes. I am going to replace the air intake hose which appears to be aluminum dryer vent hose. I keep finding splits...

Yes, 6" diameter is fine. You can also use smooth wall PVC which offers less restriction most materials.
