As I see the solution there are two potential choices, reposition or replacement. Moving the magnet, reposition, is a pretty simple fix with the hardest part being hiding the wire behind the door framing if possible.
You could rework the "stay out" switch from its current function to that of manually controlling the extension/retraction of the steps. Call this the replacement option. Probably the least desirable particularly when you go to exit the coach after driving which makes for a long last step. Also forgetting to hit the switch to retract when you start out and leave the steps out while going down the road and make a right turn that is a little close the the curb.
