An American Tradition w/300hp cummins?

Hey good folks,
I'm interested in a 2000 '40 American Tradition with the 300hp cummins. It's got 75,000 miles on it and it's in pristine condition with a lot of upgrades. Is that a lot of miles for a 300hp cummins? Worth a serious look or pass on it? Price is $55,000.

~Thanks, John

We put over 90,000 miles on a 2000 American Tradition equipped with the 300hp ISC engine. It was a great combination and provided excellent service for us. Not only that, but its grand fuel economy average for the total 90,000 miles was about 9.8 mpg. A lot better than our next motorhome that was equipped with a 9 liter CAT engine.

Thanks Ed, that's good news. The 2000 American Tradition is one of a handful of diesel pushers we're considering in a couple months (spring-time).

  • "stepdad".....The upgrades sound like something someone would do who intends to keep the coach. Did they say why they are now selling?

The 2000 American Tradition is at a dealership. The dealership says the previous owners took a lot of pride in ownership and did these upgrades over the years as money would allow.

Ask the dealership to put you in contact with the previous owner. Don't accept no for an answer. They can contact the owner and ask permission. I did that on a used car. Dealership wiggled and whined but rolled over. Talked to the previous owner who traded it and bought the car.

The really good used rigs get purchased fairly quickly. If this is one, waiting a couple of months could find it sold.
  • "stepdad"....If it was done over time, that wouldn't be unusual for someone to do. Sounds like a nice coach.
