Another beginner with RV wanderlust...

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of experience and information available. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

And, don't be concerned about being a beginner. At one time none of knew anything about RVing.

Don't be in a big hurry to buy, take you time and look at all types of RV's. Then decide what is best for you.

Welcome to the forum and the RVing lifestyle. Everyone on this forum was brand new at one time. And probably new to the lifestyle as well. I've been RVing and using this forum for over 10 years and still learn something new almost every time. We all make our own mistakes, but I try not to repeat mine and, since nobody knows me, I'll freely admit when I do.
But if you make a real doozy, tell us about it - it could be original. :)

I am not freelance, but have published four novels from my recliner, three of which came with my RV travels to historical locations, fifth one in the works.

We actually like to help in spite of our little tirades from time to time. Hopefully we will get to read some of your work, fiction or non fiction?

LOL -- thanks for the warm welcome, Jim. This forum will be the first to know if I nail that doozy. I'll be sure to take pics and/or videos, where applicable. :p

The tirades are great -- they make for very entertaining reading. ;)

I've published one poetry book and two young adult novels (and am working on the third in the trilogy). Perhaps I'll share those sometime. Other than that, I mainly do work for business owners -- nothing all that exciting.

Thanks, Jim. You live in one of my favorite cities. I lived in Tucson briefly in the 1990s and now I visit when I can. Once I hit the road I plan to spend some more time in the desert and up on Mount Lemmon.

It hasn't been said yet so I will say it. I would highly recommend you rent an RV (or two or three) first before you commit to the financial plunge. You can then sample what you think would work for you in order to best choose what fits your lifestyle.

Welcome! We chose a motor home out of shear envy of other people being able to just stop anywhere and go in the back to sleep or eat. We did a couple of tours of MHs owned by friends to get a better idea of what we liked.

Hi Rebecca: Dakzuki's point is right-on. The RV life style is one many people, esp. on these boards, enjoy very much. But, with the RV life comes some issues that you may or may not be aware. First, take an RV rental to a nearby campground and learn how to park, back-up, level, and hook-up. Learn how to dump sewage (black-tank), & gray water. Learn how to fill the fresh water tank. Learn all about the heater/AC, generator, etc. and see if you like doing these kind of chores. They are all part of the RV lifestyle.

Also, like most hobbies and especially expensive ones like RVing, you will need to devote some time year round to take care of the RV, whether you are on the road or not. For example, you reported that you are currently in Minn., which means you would have to winterize the RV. Additionally, if your RV has a generator, most need to be "exercised" monthly.

These points are not to discourage you. But, rather to help you decide if the lifestyle is one that you would enjoy, and that you go into any RV purchase with your "eyes wide open". Best wishes for success! Perhaps we will see you down the road.

This is good advice in my opinion. Do not get emotionally attached to an RV and base a buying decision on it.
