I travel to cold weather in the Winter from time to time and I found that doing nothing with the outside side vent was a major mistake. Since the ice maker water line runs up the back of the fridge I woke up one morning to the ice maker water line busted and spewing water out that side vent creating a beautiful but worthless ice fall. I left the vent in place but used expanding foam from the inside to seal up all openings leaving only the roof vent open. This allows heat to rise and escape but does not allow the freezing air to do any damage. I am currently in the Detroit, MI area with snow and 20 degree air temps. The coach and the fridge are warm and happy and life could not be much better.
