Yes, you need a digital antenna. The old bat wing is not suitable for anything more than a bad paper weight. There are add ons you can get for the bat wing that are suppose to bring in the digital signals. But a decent digital antenna is only about 30 dollars at places like best buy.
Everything in this post is 100% incorrect!
Why, after all the postings on this forum by people that know what they're talking about does a statement like this come up from Senior Member.... O help me...
So! NO, you do NOT need to replace the antenna! There is no such thing as a 'digital antenna' regardless of what you hear or the arguments trying to sway you otherwise, it just ain't true.
Next, IF your 2004 Batwing does not have a Wingman attached, THATS's the $30 you should be spending, not some entry level residential antenna that needs to get set up and broken down every single time.
To the Jack Antenna: Hopefully you have read that link above by now, because there simply is not a better antenna available than a properly working Batwing, with or without a Wingman, but the Wingman definitely makes a difference.
All that being said, as mentioned above, your description of 'Noise' caught my attention too. There is 'noise' noise, and there is Digital TV carrier 'noise'. And the two look identical to the untrained eye.
Two things need to happen: Look at all the connections, make SURE the Batwing amp is on, antenna is cranked up and pointed in the same direction as your neighbors (note that direction is NOT the same as the little arrow on the ceiling (It's likely 90 degrees toward the right side of the vehicle), NOW do a scan on the TV and see what you get.
If you really want to spend $$ on a major improvement to locating digital signals, check out a Winegard SensorPro.
