OP here. Thanks for the replies.
My main desire for a rig like this is the 4 wheel drive. I'd like something I could camp in winter conditions and take off road. It'd be for winter camping mostly, but also for camping in the back country. I'm avid backcountry skier, mountainbiker and backpacker. Every once in awhile I peak at what 4x4 vans are out there and found this and though it was interesting.
I have a 18 foot camping trailer and a Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I am super reluctant to attempt towing my trailer in winter conditions. A Sportsmobile would work for what I'd like to do, but likely too expensive if it was in good shape.
I agree the cost to restore that rig is probably too high. I also don't have the right facilities at my house to work on a rig like that. I'd have to finagle my 78 year old father into allowing me to keep it in his shop. (He actually considered looking into it when I showed him the ad on CL) It'd be a heck of a fun project and I could build it up custom based on my wants and desires.
I've enjoyed many building projects over the years. The majority of them didn't involve working on motors. I do enjoy the challenge of a motivating project. I'd probably be better off finding a small insulated camper shell for my Tacoma or taking the money I'd be spending and putting it into a larger 4x4 with a camper.
Thanks for your input guys :D:)
