Any Tips for Running Wires in DP's?

I need to run a CAT 5 wire from a rear compartment (Where my OBD hookup is) to the dashboard. I hate drilling holes if I don't have to make it easy for mice and bugs and water for that matter. Any easy areas you fella's have found to run wires? Most of the bottom of this rig is flat with no access to the frame. All of that is in the basement. I snuck the brake controller wire into the basement in the front and out of the basement toward the rear of the basement. Just wondering if there is an easy way I am missing.

  • I have one under the column, but I have not had success tracing the wires at this point. I will be trying this again. That port does not work though. Obviously this would be the simplest answer is to get that port working if I can track down the issue with it.
I have not seen the bluetooth ones for this style. And I would imagine I would have to get power down there.
  • Are you sure there isn't an ODB connector under the dash by your steering column?

Have you considered a Bluetooth ODB instead of a wired one?

Sounds like you don't have many options. I think you could (1) use the same method as the brake controller wire or (2) install some type of rigid wire conduit along the flat bottom of the rig.

When I installed rear cameras, I could run the wire along the frame rail/existing wire looms. It sounds like you do not have that option available.

Let us know how you solve the problem.

  • Several years ago I had to run a new coax for a rear camera replacement. I started at the rear camera and went down between the rear cap and firewall next to the engine's air filter intake. Once down under the coach, I followed (or even shared) existing wire looms all the way to the front electrical compartment located under the driver's seat. That compartment had holes (with grommets) that went up into the driver's left hand console unit and then on under the dash to the camera's monitor. No holes drilled anywhere.

There were several spots where I couldn't find an existing cable loom and I would just tie wrap the coax (with plastic protective cover...ribbed type that has a slot cut into it) to whatever I could find that would keep the coax free from moving parts or ground debris.

    Good luck

  • Sooner or later you will have to enter the body of the MH. You either have to drill thru the firewall and seal with puddy or find a rubber boot that already has wires running thru it that you can add you new batch of wires. Running the wires along the frame is a simple route, you will find a lot of pipes and wires already there.
  • Bucky,

Please tell us what rig you have-- that will make recommendations more suitable for your rig.
