I'm considering replacing my current towd, an '06 Miata, with a c5 vete. It would be a stick so I'm thinking that it could be towed but don't know if there is a base plate for it . . I'm looking at a real nice '01 valued about the same as my Miata. Bob

Your Owner's Manual should be able to answer your question. Personally, I've never seen a Vette towed.

I'd be willing to bet nobody makes base plates for it since I doubt there is a lot of interest in towing them. Not to mention are Vette tires usually only good for about 15k miles? May make more sense to get a car trailer?

You might want to read the manual page 4.31 and look for another vehicle. The 2001 model requires that you put the manual trans in R and set the brake and then you can turn off the switch. Engine does not shut off if steps are not follow. Automatic has it own set of rules also. We do have a local owner (not sure of the year) that has a tow hitch on it and he does tow a glider in a trailer.

I flat towed a '63 Split Window coupe from Butkburnett, Tx to Michigan City, IN, to Merced, CA to Spokane, WA while on active duty. A welder in the Wichita Falls, TX fabricated the "base plate" and tow bar for me. The drive shaft on the Corvette had to be removed in order to tow it. A full size '69 Plymouth Wagon - 383 engine, auto trans, was my tow vehicle. It towed very well, no supplemental braking, no problems.

I was sitting at a signal in my motor home a few days ago and saw a newer Corvette make a left turn in front of me. I don't know why, but towing it came to mind. Looking at the front end as it went by, I think they're just too low to safely tow without ripping the front end off.

According to Remco, if it is a rear wheel drive it doesn't matter what trany it has, it has to be put on a trailer.

I am ALL for the guy pulling whatever he wants. His money, his business.

But, we ALL have had to dodge a 'gator' in the road by centering it. I can only imagine it getting stuck under the Vette or tearing up the front facia. I had to straddle a ladder once on the interstate. It would not have been pretty for a low riding vehicle.

Trailer it, I would never even consider towing any of my vette's, If you towed it, you would eat up those tires too! As it is I only get about 15k miles per set., By the way, great ride!

I saw a Porche it was a classic and was 4 down being towed behind a MOHO once. It sure was good looking too! So anythings possible. I would personally go for a car hauler .

RP, I've never seen one towed seen lots of them trailered. Whenever, it's time for a new toad I always ask the DW for a C-5, she's never receptive to it!

Come on folks - if he wants to tow a Vette let him it is his. We FROG a Mustang Convertible and when people ask why - We say because we want to. Call Blue Ox and ask them how much for a custom base plate.

Even if you could tow it 4-down I think you would get a lot of dings on it form gravel, your motorhome, and passing cars/trucks. It sits too low.

I did see a beautiful Vette being towing the other day in Las Vegas, but it was on a trailer. Was surprised it was out in the open and not in an enclosed trailer.

According to the C5 and C6 Owners Manual
"" There are two type of recreational vehicle towing are know as "dinghy" towing where all 4 wheels are on the ground. And "Dolly towing with two wheels on the ground and two wheels up on a device known as a "Dolly"

As I have a 2007 C6 Corvette, it would be all but impossible to tow as the frontal ground clearance is less than 5" from the ground! To get to the frame, would require cutting several slots in the front bumper to reach the frame (and would be extremely ugly)and you would be looking at spending several thousand $$$ to custom make an attachment plate!
