I stumbled across something that would have been nice to have about 2 years ago. It turns out that Diablo people, make a saw blade that will cut through steel. I saw a video on the blade in action, and it produced very few sparks compared to using a abrasive wheel.
The saw cut through the steel very quickly. It looked quicker than using an abrasive wheel.

Here is a slightly larger pic of the center of the blade.

It says right on the blade, that it will cut steel plates and bars up to 1/2" thick, and angle iron up to 1/4". Threaded rod can be cut up to 1.5" thick. Wow!
If you go to Home Depot's website, and search for Diablo Steel Demon, these blades will come up. They come in different sizes. Perhaps, I'll have to give them a try some day.
Btw, they also come in blades for the reciprocating saw as well.
