If weight is the main thing on your agenda, what did that roof covering weigh compared to a standard EPDM roof covering?
Weight isn't the only/main thing. Everything in an rv is a compromise. Is it too heavy? Is it too light and therefore won't last long term.
How much will it cost?
I was willing to compromise some weight on the roof, figuring if the roof leaks, the rv will self destruct over the long term.
On the other hand, if I can save some weight here or there, and still have it last, that just gives me extra cargo to carry.
The drawers are a combo of weight/cost/longevity.
I'll probably end up using 1/2" thick sides, with 1/4" bottoms, for the drawers. I think that will hold up, and I'll still save a couple of bucks on plywood, as well as some weight.
Nothing like a balancing act, to keep me on my toes.
