Since I know that the total distance I have available to the height of the drawers, and spaces, is ... 31 - 7/8"....
Now I can subtract the 1 - 7/8" from the 31- 7/8" and end up with 30" available for the 4 drawers.
If they were all going to be equal height - they would all be 7 - 1/2" high.
Mine won't be equal, but as long as those 4 add up to 30 inches - everything will fit like it should.
The spacing between the drawers can be increased or decreased, depending on your needs, and a little addition and subtraction will give the results you need for your situation.
