I hear you Healeyman. For the moment I am stuck on a Solstice.
Ron,
When my 2010 Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT) Miata was butt-smacked and totaled, I spent a couple of months researching what to buy for both a daily driver and a towed.
I included the Solstice and the Sky (both soft tops) in my search, driving one of each. I like the looks of both, but after having driven a Miata retractable hardtop for a couple of years, I was VERY disappointed in the drivability and the handling (soft and sluggish) of both cars and especially the cumbersome awkwardness of putting up the tops.
I quickly settled on a 2012 Miata PRHT. I STRONGLY suggest that you try out a 2010 and later (2.0 liter) MANUAL Miata, preferably one with the Sport Suspension (yellow shocks). It is light years ahead of your previous Miata.
Being a child of the Hot Rod '50s and the Muscle Cars 60s, I have put an Electric Super Charger (50 HP & 50+ torque) on my Miata.
It is awesome!!!
Go drive a Solstice, THEN go drive a 2010+ Miata PRHT (push a button = top up/down). There is no comparison.
Please keep me posted.
Tim
