Park near an Amish community and get to know them. They don't need any of the technical things we find necessary and they will continue to live just fine.
They may let you mooch off of them. :B
If you only have a 600watt inverter, I would upgrade. Mine is 3000 watts. I would also go to a larger generator, if yours is indeed one of the small portable 600 watt units. There are many places that sell water purification systems, including one that is not much more than a drinking straw that you put in to the river and drink your fill.
We live in a hurricane zone so every year we make sure that we have sufficient food and water on hand for at least a month without services. All vehicles are topped off with fuel, etc. After hurricane season, we use that food until we have to stock up again for the next storm season. The longest we have been without power was a few weeks.
