A software hack to the grid should be fixed in a few days. EMP strike might take months to replace everything that burned out. For a short stretch, you can cover your needs with an appropriate amount of solar panels and an appropriate number of batteries. The amount and number depend upon your intended usage level. Golf cart batteries would work fine, they are pretty tough. I wouldn't use lithium Ion batts for this purpose, the recharge termination needs to be pretty precise and they won't tolerate deep discharge well.
