Aquarena Springs San Marcos

Hi every one.
The wife and I along with 3 boys ages 8,10, and 11 are leaving Friday to head down to New Braunfels from south of Dallas with the boys for 3 days. We were looking for a place to stop a few hours and show them something new. I found this place called Aquarena Springs and they have glass bottom boat rides. Has anybody done this with kiddos? Is something we can stop at for a few hours along the way that you think they would like?
  • Highly recommend Natural Bridge Cavern & the wildlife park drive-thru is cool too. Also I recommend The Snake Farm right off I-35. Watch for the billboards. My son is 16 & he still likes it! Now you can kill about 1.5 hours at The Snake Farm. NB Caverns tour plus Wildlife Park is about 4 hours.

Also you can go to Landa Park and ride the city River Chute for $5 PP. or just tube down the Comel.
  • We did the glass bottom boats at Aquarena Springs many years ago when it was an amusement park. It's probably something they would enjoy but don't know how much time it would kill and I'm sure they would enjoy the caves! Both would be something fun and educational.
  • Doug pretty much nailed it. There is an outlet mall center in NB, but the big stuff is around the 200 mile marker. For kids, Natural Bridge Caverns is a nice treat, because they have two caves to see, as well as the usual mining sluices, snack bar, etc.

There is always Schlitterbahn, but take your sunblock; you will need it.
  • How about a cave tour? Inner Space Caverns north of Austin on I35 is pretty good. Wonder Cave at San Marcos isn't much to see. Natural Bridge Caverns south of new Braunfels is one of the best two in the state (they have a wildlife park too). A little south of New Braunfels on I35 is the Snake Farm (stuff besides snakes too). The wife will like the super large discount mall just south of San Marcos at MM 200 on I35.
