How about a cave tour? Inner Space Caverns north of Austin on I35 is pretty good. Wonder Cave at San Marcos isn't much to see. Natural Bridge Caverns south of new Braunfels is one of the best two in the state (they have a wildlife park too). A little south of New Braunfels on I35 is the Snake Farm (stuff besides snakes too). The wife will like the super large discount mall just south of San Marcos at MM 200 on I35.
