Are 50 amp to 30 amp plug converters reliable?

We have a 30 amp rig. Campground assigned us a 50 amp only site and we arrived at midnight so we just stayed put on batteries (I asked for 30 amp but I guess it didn't register). I have a 50 amp to 30...

My plug converter has no fuze or other protection capability to limit current; it is just an adapter that changes the prong configuration. I use a surge protector and am comfortable with that on 30 and 50 and rely on my coach fuze panel for current limiting.
