Are 50 amp to 30 amp plug converters reliable?

We have a 30 amp rig. Campground assigned us a 50 amp only site and we arrived at midnight so we just stayed put on batteries (I asked for 30 amp but I guess it didn't register). I have a 50 amp to 30...
