We came from a 2014 F350 dually and a Redwood - two Montanas before that. I had a triglide pin box and airlift on the truck.
The ride in our 43' Class A with tag axle is drastically different. I no longer brace myself for a dip in the road or a bridge. It also is much easier to maneuver than our 5er. I won't even talk about how much better I like driving the Wrangler we tow than that dually when not RVing. I literally HATED the ride of that dually when not towing. We would joke about the touch screen because on concrete highways we could never steady our hands enough to hit a button. My wife just quit riding in it unless she had to. :)
I'm fairly new to the Class A, but over 20 years in 5ers. Things I noticed going from a 5er to a pusher - good and bad:
- Engine noise behind you is super quiet, almost non-existant
- I miss the acceleration of the F350 towing
- As stated, the 5er is not pushing me around anymore
- Rattles - we now ride with the dishes :)
- Stunning views out that front window
- Get free glass! The windshield can be a rock magnet - we've repaired chips twice in 3 months
- All systems are automatic - large inverters, generators, automatic changeovers
- Expensive to fix - coach batteries were $1475
- Huge basement storage and slide trays
- On ours, all access to storage is under a slideout so not as accessible as 5er basement
- Driving comfort much higher - nice seats, large mirrors, multiple cameras
- No center seat for sweety to snuggle up
- Fuel mileage for us (ISL Cummins) is 7.5 towing a Wrangler, not much different than the F350!
- Suspension tires and frame is so much more stout! Even the entry door closes like a vault
- Easier to clean (limited carpet - mostly tile)
- It will cost more overall
As stated above, test drive anything you can. Understand they are empty so they typically ride better when loaded, and sometimes even quieter. Have fun shopping!!
