In doing my research on this matter I found a report about revenue generated by this tax. In that report (I forget the exact number now) but there was something like 79 commercial fueling locations in the entire State of Arizona. Most of those were in the Phoenix and Tucson area and the rest were along the interstates. So assuming this tax really did apply to motorhomes (and we're confident now it doesn't) that means there are only 79 fueling locations in the entire state where you could purchase fuel for your motorhome. Now that may not be an issue for people who stay on the Interstates, or who are just passing through, but for residents of AZ or snowbirds spending extensive time there it could be an issue. So it's a little more than just the 8 cents a gallon.

You are about two days late my friend. I was already asked that question and gave a very specific answer. Now, continue reading to find it. My answer there should tell you EXACTLY why personally I will need this in writing; even if that means taking this to the Governor's office to get one of the State employees with authority to publish a written response that is not just something sent from some guy that may or may not have the correct information or based on a telephone conversation.

Still be cautious.

If indeed someone has been ticketed there could well be a disconnect between the policy makers and the enforcement arm. Perhaps this gives a means to fight a citation but only after it has been received.

So we have our official answer. Unfortunately they can send nothing to reference because it is specifically not written, but compiled from various sections of the statues. Mainly zero declared gross weight.

And nothing in writing? From the Director's office. Was it the Director or a clerk? If so, please give us the name. Because, out of that same office, I believe in 2012 I was told the EXACT OPPOSITE. Without it being in writing it is worthless, nor do we know exactly what was said. What about three axles? This is exactly why it must be in writing.

Commercial vehicles pay the higher tax..........rest of us pay lower tax.

If you fuel at pump with higher tax rate ($0.26 vs $0.18) go to attendant and get $0.08 refund times number of gallons bought. (attendant has a log that has to be filled out with your name/address/vehicle info etc.)

Get over it.....RVrs are not going to get ticketed for fueling up with diesel in AZ.
Might pay higher fuel tax depending on pump used and not knowing about the availability of refund (on the spot).
But NO tickets..........
