Don't make the mistake we did. We tried to "guesstimate" how far we would drive the first day, needing more than one day of travel to our destination, and paid for (online) and reserved a campground at that point thinking we would be prepared. As luck would have it, we had some issues and got a late start. That had us running behind and getting to the campground after dark, trying to get through a coded gate and find the campsite in a complex campground, fumbling around in the dark and probably annoying settled in campers in the process. We learned from it, on the way home we just drove until we were ready to stop and started googling campgrounds up ahead in the direction we were going. We had no problems finding several overnight style campgrounds and found a nice one with a pool and playground for our 6 year old. It was painless and stress free.
