Avoiding New Orleans on I10
We are going from California to Florida on Interstate 10 next week and as I look at the route it appears that taking I12 in Baton Rouge would be a good idea to avoid all the traffic around New Orleans...

By all means avoid I10 through NO. It is longer timewise and much rougher, at least in the past. I am not sure I would take 19 if headed to the East Coast. DW and I have driven it and it does not reward you with any beauty for the additional time. We found it to be boring. Just IMO. The last time we were headed north from St Petersburg we stayed on I75 and found it much more pleasant. And we are generally back roads folks.
