As far as I am concerned, awnings are a waste of time and money on RVs anyway. In the past 14 months, I think we had the awning out once, and it was only because someone asked me to put it out. I would not even have one on the coach, if given a choice!
As for electric awnings.. Yes, that's what I have, I disabled the wind sensor (Simple switch on mine, and labeled not less) so it won't try to retract while tied down.
If a server wind is expected,,, I roll it up.
Oh, and before anyone says "What do you do if the motor fails?" well, first, if I left it on Auto-retract and the motor failed I'd be in the same boat or worse.
But I have the knowledge gained from reading the owner's manual
The tools, skills and EXPERIENCE (Gained from a fellow camper with a burned out motor) to roll it up by hand if needed.
We tried all the steps and finally got to last resort, Rolled it up (Big wind expected) Called Rachel (Nordstrom's mobile RV service) who came out and replaced the motor (under warranty) TWICE, Second time she also replaced the switch and controller which is why the motor burned out to start with.
But I did the initial roll up.
