Perhaps I misunderstood what you are trying to do. Since you are concerned about wind wrapping around the coach, apparently you want to keep the awning extended while you are driving.
All of my awnings have the aluminum wrap, when retracted, and I have never had any wind issues while driving. I have never tried driving with my rear awning extended and don't think I would try it even tho all of my awnings have four bolts on each arm instead of rivets.
I also should add that on all of my window awnings, they are spring loaded and held down by two nylon straps and plastic catches to hold them down. I don't think I would trust the plastic catches while driving. In fact if we are going to be experiencing any high winds when parked, we retract the window awnings.
