If it's like the live axles I worked on years ago, when you pull the shafts the oil runs out. Some newer axles run a seal on both sides of the inner bearing and grease it but the outer bearing is still lubed by the diff oil. Tow it after the oil has run out? Never considered it and always pulled the drive shaft. Well no matter what I hope you topped off the gear oil.
