As for the axle... the oil running out onto the tire is one of the reasons some people don't like to do it apparently, however, in none of the stuff I've read about it did anyone mention having issues with it from a lube perspective.
I could be wrong about this, but I am pretty sure that taking the axles out is at least one 'correct' way to do it for towing. The reason I say this is because it was towed here by CAA's RV towing service and the driver is the one who did it.
Considering they would be liable for damages to it if it had been wrong, I can't see it happening.
Now, if I am wrong and someone knows for a fact that it may have caused some damage, let me know what to check and I'll see.
I do know I need new seals for the caps, and it seems logical to assume I would have to put more oil/lube in... which brings me back to, a book or manual on the chassis part would be awesome lol
