my wife tells me when she's headed to the back and i acknowledge that its a good time or not & i try to drive significantly smoother while she's up.
I have a small mirror (that i picked up somewhere) - the type that would be used to watch a baby in the back seat of a car....its suction cupped on the windshield and allows me to see whats going on in the back.
if i see a bump or some issue i coming up i let my wife and kids know w/ a good YELL "BUMP" or "SIT DOWN". everyone understands its wise to steady yourself or even lightly keep a hand on something to steady yourself (no different then if you were walking down the isle of an airliner in flight or a bus in motion).
