Are you by chance leaving the ignition in the ON position instead of the Acc position?????
On a Suzuki you can unlock the ignition and then turn the ignition key completely off again and LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION and the steering will remain unlocked. Don't know about your vehicle.
