Beginning Search for Class C (drawn to 12+ yr old Lazy Daze)

Lazy Daze has a cult following as one of the best in housebox construction workmanship and materials. They cost a lot more than common brands but sell for more used. LD does not install slides, some find the styling dated. There are comparable brands and similar floor plans. Most RV manufacturers install the same brands of appliances, air conditioners, awnings, etc. and most use the Ford E-450 chassis. Our air conditioner, fridge, water pump, and awning fabric needed replacement at around 10 years. I advise buying a rig that is 3-5 years old if you can afford it. Have it inspected and get written estimates for replacement/repairs parts and labor. Don't buy any rig with mold smells or stains in ceiling or other evidence of water leak damage.

I would NOT expect a dealer to be any help in locating one. Most are sold via private sale. Join the Yahoo Lifewithalazydaze group, which has classified ads. The group is moving to a new format soon, so expect some changes.

We found ours via RVTrader. I also searched craigslist (especially in CA) while we were shopping. There are some owners who aren't aware of the LWALD group and those 2 outlets are popular.

Be patient AND be willing to travel. Factory production has slowed down a lot while demand seems to have kept up. From what I can see, this has made the used market very competitive. Because each new LD is sold in CA, they can be scarce along the east coast.

All is not lost. There are still gently used LazyDaze coaches that come up for sale from time to time. The pattern is familiar. Someone buys a new LD upon retirement and travels for a few years. 25k later, health issues or other interests crop up and the coach sits unused for a few years. Finally it is put up for sale and someone else gets a chance to enjoy it.

Even with the quality of build, be aware of and check for water intrusion particularly around the rear end caps and around the overhead bunk. We checked ours quite well and still ended up with a small amount of damage near an end cap related to a screw added soon after manufacturing (before we owned it). Fl is some distance from the LD factory, and very few repair shops along the east coast have much experience with the different way LazyDaze builds their coaches.

I've talked with them in factory about roof maintenance and there was no recommendation of reseal every 2 years. I pretty much offered to bring it in for service whenever they said to and they were in no hurry at all. Mine is '11.

I'd sure check for past leaks, damage, and have roof checked on any candidate I was considering.

I purchased a 07 Lazy Daze (LD) Mid Bath (MB) four years and a few months ago. It some looking and I wound up flying to California and driving home. It was a solo trip because my wife could not get off work.

We found our RV on the Life with Lazy Daze but I found a lot of support in several groups.

I taped the top seams of the RV when the RV was 5 years old before the existing seams needed resealing. The factory owners manual is very helpful and while they recommend periodic inspection I do recall the factory not saying to reseal the roof every two years. The factory is not a fan of Eternabond Tape because it is so difficult to remove.

There are enough improvements in the Ford e-450, as well as with small things the LD factory changed, that if you can get a 08 or newer.

All the talk about roof sealing points to the biggest issue any other RV, look closely for leaks.

depending on what you want and if willing to travel there is a freelander or something like that for sale here an 06 for around $24K I think it said. Not sure what it has but I pass by it everyday, just dont pay much attention. Also a gasser A for around $10K looks to be in good shape again I just pass it by as dont have time to look at them.

We have a 2002, rear bath Lazy Daze, and we love it. There are times we discuss getting a newer model but we have never had any issues with our rv, so we keep deciding to hang on to it. It is wonderful. Now, we do keep it well maintained, which certainly helps.

There is a South East Lazy Daze Club that has a couple of outings per year, and like most LD clubs, they welcome wannabees. They just completed a outing, but will likely have another closer to the Fall. The North East group will be meeting in the Hartford CT area in a few weeks. Your welcome to attend, but it is a 2 day drive from Sarasota. The LD sites on line are restricted, but you can argue your case to join because of looking to purchase. There are rigs for sale from time to time, but as noted by another, they can go fast.

When looking at used, do check for leaks. Also check to make sure all appliances and the generator work. Request paperwork that documents required service on the truck. Check the tire date codes on the tires. The tires will need to be replaced if over 6 years old, no matter how good the tread looks. Determine the conditions of the coach batteries and the chassis battery. Try to find a LD with a fuel injected engine, rather than carb.

The mid-bath floor plan is the most common. A 27 foot LD mid-bath has an OCCC of about 2900 pounds, permitting you the ability to carry a fair amount of people and stuff. Some full-time or near full-time in their units.

It's simply not true that a Lazy Daze roof has to be sealed every two years! Where does this stuff come from? :h

I have a 13-year old LD; the roof has been re-sealed *once* with Eternabond. Many other owners of all ages of LDs have the same or similar experiences. *Any* RV can and will develop leaks if not diligently maintained, but having to re-seal the roof of a Lazy Daze every two years is nonsense.
