The only protection is that if the converter fails to produce high enough voltage the chassis battery will not be discharged into the parasitic draws of the house. House battery still goes dead.

Wire does not provide this protection and you will be calling for a jump start. Also Trik-L-Start is automatic and never forgets. Wire is a manual process to connect and disconnect when appropriate. Be sure your wire is large enough to provide full current or has a fuse.
