The NAME not withstanding, a unit that works like that should NOT be referred to as a "trickle" charger because trickle chargers apply a small charging current flow the entire time that they are connected and turned on. One that automatically vaires the current or automatically turns itself on and off should NOT be called a trickle charger......because it is NOT.
