A feature I'd look for next time is the ability to set and retain in memory a zoom setting.
Bought the top touchscreen Garmin car gps and by default it zooms out too far to show approaching towns, etc. After manually zooming in, it will zoom back out after a turn, power-off, etc. A big detraction.
I've found Garmin road guidance to be very good, and their hand-held hiking units are excellent.
