My experience with a 4 year old 19.5 Goodyear right front blowout was exactly the same as the OP. It was very easy to control. A 2" hole in the sidewall. Then my second experience with a 5 year old inner rear one was exactly the same.
The third one I caught in the campground as a golf ball sized bulge in the sidewall.
New tires all around after that. And they are NOT Goodyear.
