Hi again everyone.
Thank you so much for all of your advice and thoughts. We went up north this weekend to do more reno work on the RV and while we got a lot done, the electrical is still a mess. As expected, it's 37 years of people cobbling together bits and pieces and jury rigging them to the original converter. There are cables that go nowhere, random in-line fuses inserted with electrical tape, etc... it's just a nightmare.
That said, the converter is the original so I'm going to take everyone's advice and replace it anyway. while I'm at it, I can just do all the wiring in there from scratch, which should solve all sorts of problems.
That being said, does anyone have a favorite converter? I was looking at this one: http://amzn.com/B0039T059U.
