Absolute craziness. I would've asked someone to put a dinette with belts in like you wanted. Might have been a couple grand. You would've had what I consider one of the best generation mechanical coaches! If you are at all a tinkerer, those older cummins had easy to service, largely smog control free inexpensive (as far as diesels go to service) engines and Monaco made a solid coach. My buddy had an accident in his Diplomat 1999. Something came off a truck in front of him he ran over, blew a tire, object bounced underneath. He lost control, slammed into one of those metal and wood piling fences on the I -10, went down the embankment and rolled 180 deg, then back, and settled on its side. No one was seriously injured! When insurance paid him off, what do you think he bought? Monaco. 2001 Windsor. When I think of family travel, my first thought is Safety.
Regarding driving comfort.. When I first got my 40' I got nervous and skittish too on some tight mountain roads. Worried I might drag into another lane or be off my game a bit and break something detracted from the fun. Now others may be nervous seeing me coming at them, but I'm relaxed and in complete control. Sometimes I'm asked by friends or even the wife if I could make such and such ..in a joking way..I always reply the same...sure! Handles like a compact car!
Practice.
Too bad about that cummins ..
