Brake In A Box Questions

I am considering a Blue Ox Patriot braking system for my toad and have a couple of questions. The toad is a 2016 Ford Focus and the negative battery terminal must be disconnected when towing. I am thinking of running a charge line into the car to plug the patriot into. Will this work? Does anyone use a patriot or similar system that does not connect to the vehicle battery? Will the break away switch still operate? Perhaps the breakaway switch will work off the internal Patriot battery one time? Appreciate any info you can provide.

  • The Blue Ox Patriot system has it's own internal battery so the connection to your RV is only to keep it charged. This also means that it will work just fine if the vehicle breaks away.
It would actually be easy to put a disconnect switch on your Ford vehicle battery to isolate your Ford but still provide power to the brake system.
  • Considering your question, what are you trying to accomplish? Is it to keep the vehicle battery charging while towing? Also I would not remove the cable, I would install a switch.
