ALMOST true. You do need the CDL B exempt if the GVWR is over 26,000 lbs.
Made it kind of fun to get my license, as our coach has four 4 piston/fixed caliper hydraulic brakes with ABS. An EXCELLENT braking system BTW. Had to show her the brake master cylinder before the tester would let me start the engine!
This varies by state e.g. In Washington State you can drive an RV up to 80,000# GCWR with a car license!
