MowerMech has it right. You need a working systems knowledge in order to ensure safe and efficient operation. I was doing an inspection on a motor home with a PAC brake. I asked the owner if it worked. "I don't know. I never used it. I don't know how it works." Now there are some fine nuances of a PAC brake (like where the compressor is, whether it's getting clean air, what lube to use etc.), but the general operation of a PAC brake is spelled out in most manufacturer's manuals and there are plenty of posts about its use right here.
Before I had a driver's license, I had already rebuilt a couple of engines and helped my cousin rebuilt an old Ford coupe. It's probably not possible to have that level of knowledge about the computer controlled cars of today, but you should still have enough to ensure safe operation. The same holds true for RVs.
