Bill: Yes that is scary. Unfortunately the US does not have a cross state driver training program or any standards for one. It was part of a bill in Congress in the 80's but never passed. I took a 240 hour course: 80 hours classroom. After that we learned with a partner. The trucks had the sleeper removed and they installed an extra seat. I drove 60 hours and observed my partner for another 60 hours. We drove city and highway. Did alley docking and maneuvers. We also did 20 hours of pre trip and air brake. Also observed my partner doing the same. It was intensive and I hadn't studied this much since College. There is talk of the US implementing a similar program. Some trucking companies have a finishing program where you work with a trainer for 90 days.
