Broke charger on Brake Buddy

I smashed the lighter adaptor on my brake buddy when I slammed the door on it. The fuse inside broke and the black plastic housing piece broke off at the end of the charger.

I put in a 20 amp fuse and glued/taped the plastic back together. The silver knobby thing at the end still goes in and out.

Should I even attempt to plug this in or am I going to blow up my brake buddy?

Naturally, I'm heading into the mountains tomorrow.

Any advice on repairs?

    One thing to note there are two sizes of those plugs out there. One is slightly larger and is a very tight fit in the receptacle. Make sure you get one with the right diameter.

    If you feel you need it until you get the proper repair from BB, follow the previous advice. Temp fix from auto parts store. I would make my perm fix with parts directly from BB.....Dennis

    Auto Zone, Advance, NAPA, Car Quest, etc. will have parts to repair it. Get wire Gage same or heavier.

    For the ease of getting it fixed right away and back on the road, go to AutoZone and pick up a new plug and wire it onto the Brake Buddy. If your unsure of how to do it, take the Brake Buddy into the Autozone and I'll bet you a dollar to a Krispy Kreme Doughnut, they will do it for you.

    I did a similar thing. I bought a replacement that never worked right. It would pop the fuse in the truck. I then called Brake Buddy and they sold me a new one. I installed it and now everything is cool.

    You can buy replacements at Radio Shack. Buy the heaviest duty one you can, and pay attention to polarity.

    Had a similar problem, I emailed BB and they sent me a new plug, cord, etc, with instructions to install properly.

    Oh, they didn't even charge me for the replacement. Great Customer Service.

    I would not use a plug that was damaged. To easy to and cheap to replace, compared to the cost to repair/replace the BB unit.

    That's just me. Don't want to get hit by lightning.
