Each persons situation is different, so their approach will be different. if you still work fulltime then getting home & back to work is a priority. I'm retired so I would stay in a local motel and be looking over the shoulder of this shop every day until the work was done.
as far as what repair takes 6 weeks, my experience has been that most serious repairs take 6 weeks; at least 6 weeks sitting around the shop, maybe not 6 weeks of actual work. in many diesel shops it takes 6 weeks to get an oil change scheduled on a MH.
