I'll add my thought to all the sound advice thus far... owners can sometimes be emotionally attached and, as such, it may be challenging to negotiate. Dealers on the other hand not so much... although they can be overly proud of their products as well.
Having said that, all things being equal, I would lean towards the private sale. YMMV
