Buying used coach

I've never bought/owned a DP but have looked around at price and different models quite a bit. If/when I start shopping I'm going for a private party rig with lots of service records, stored in a barn with a million dollar house in the background. These are out there. You just have to be patient. Find the guy that is meticulous with his house and his DP.

Not that you can't find good coaches on dealers lots.... it's just a lot harder.

Largely, it depends on how well it's kept up. And RVs (general) of that vintage tend to have cosmetic paint issues (crows feet) - esp dark colors in the southern climates.


What records are available for the coach? If none, it's easy to spend $2k (retail) to get everything changed and back into maintenance spec.

I was shopping for one in that vintage last year.. Most were no-records, left outside, and would have required a decent amount of work to get them to my personal level of care. However, if you're patient, you can find one kept covered and well cared for... The difference is massive.

The 05 Windsor is a fantastic coach and if there is nothing wrong with it, it won't last long on the used coach market. If you procrastinate, it will be gone.

Monaco is a very good coach. Some reasons would deal with the overall condition, miles, etc.

Monaco makes a decent coach. If you like it and it looks like its been taken care of, make the offer.

I just bought a 2000 Dynasty and have contacted Monaco support twice. They were great both times--send me schematics I needed to run down a problem.

Monaco customer support is alive and very good. There is a Yahoo Monacoers group that has a good list of parts and where to buy. In that vintage there was a possible problem with the connecting rods in the Cummins ISL engine. By now it would have failed.

There's always reason not to buy a motorhome. I've seen plenty that are junk and very few that I would consider buying. They all look good on RVTrader until you get up close and personal and realize the previous owner didn't take very good care of the rig.

Monacos of that vintage are great coaches and any good RV repair shop can fix anything on the coach. All documentation is available and Monaco still has the parts. No worries, buy it if you like it.
