Cab radio

Does the cab radio run off the chassis battery or the house battery, the battery switch has to be on for the cab radio to work on our 2003 Coachmen 31 foot E450SD .
  • My Coachmen radio runs off my house battery, while my Itasca radio runs off the chassis battery - they're all different. I've heard some are wired to run off either battery.

Yessir, my Winnebago has a rocker switch on dash by the steering column to select house or chassis.
  • The reason i asked was that our first time out this year, a couple weeks ago to a 4 day dogshow the radio was on most of the time and when i started the engine to leave the battery was dead (glad i always carry a jump box) and has never happened before.Battery had 13 volts before i left and drove 200 miles.Where we had to park was not level and soft soil and had to lower and raise the leveling jacks several times and i thought that may have pulled the battery down more than normal.

If the levelers are on the cab battery just run the engine when leveling so they don't drain the battery.
  • Our Winnie has a rocker switch to operate from your choice of chassis battery or house batteries. But the memory for the presets etc. is permanently wired to the chassis (Ford) battery.

    Beverley and Ken
  • I do always run the engine when using the jacks and I probably should have let the engine run a while longer after lowering them, still learning .
    Thanks for the replies.

Mine can do either. There is a select switch.
  • I must put in a switch like that. Now I can't listen to the radio with the engine off.
