Can basement of 1994 Damon Intruder take weight of scooterr?

Hopefully I did better with the title of this thread than the last one.

I am somewhat disabled and have limited mobility. I have a power wheelchair/scooter that disassembles so it would fit in the basement of the Intruder we are in the process of buying. But it's quite heavy, around 250 lb total and most of that is in the base - say 200 lb. Where could I find the specs on how much weight each compartment in the basement could hold? I tried googling the specs and came up with zilch - even the Thor archives didn't have it.

Ideally one of the basement compartments will have a plug so the batteries can charge in between uses ... but at this point, my main concern is not having it fall through the bottom and break on the highway while we are driving. If anyone can reassure me with stories of heavy items they carried in their basements without problems, I would be thrilled.

  • When I went to my Roadtrek I had the same problem. I bought a Travel Scoot scooter that folds and weighs only 35# It slides under the bed on my Roadtrek and sets up in abot 30 seconds. The only problem is loose sand with the small wheels but with hard surfaces it goes great.

X-2, this is the way I would go! Plywood is very strong and distributes the weight of the scooter.
  • The scooter breaks down easily into the seat part, control arm (long but skinny), and the squarish-base. We haven't tried but from eyeballing the basement on the MH we are buying, everything should fit - not necessarily in the *same* compartment but that's no problem. In fact, since the basement compartments go all the way from side to side, they may well all fit in the same compartment. We will know for sure in a few days! lol
  • We carry a dis-assembled mobility scooter in a compartment on our 1998 Itasca 32 ft. No problem fitting the components into the compartment. Fits like a glove.
  • The compartment will probably take the weight but I'm trying to figure out how you're going to lift the individual major assemblies into the compartment.
  • 200+ lb heavy? And I'm glad to hear there was an outlet. That will be one of the things I look for when we actually buy it and have unlimited access. ;) (Didn't check before buying because it wasn't a make-or-break issue and it was VERY hot.)
  • We have some pretty heavy stuff in ours too, and on our motorhome there is a plug in one of the large bays. It's a 110 plug, so to charge something we would need to run the generator while we traveled.
  • The plywood is a good idea. I've added it to the (long and getting longer) list of things to do. ;)
