Can you back up with a toad 4 down

Not the first time this subject has come up. I do my best not to get in to a situation where I have to back up but I have done it a few times. The longest was about 100 feet straight back. I just went very slow and watched the toad in my camera.
My Demco tow bar says in the instructions to be careful when backing so it is obvious that their tow bar is designed for backing. I can't speak for any other brand.
