Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

So, I'm getting gas in Oregon, and I say to the attendant (I can't touch the nozzle), I hope that this fits, and he says.... you come from CA? I say it didn't fit there, and he says... Just recut the opening at the back of the fiberglass enclosure and lower the intake. I've done it for a friend. OK.. I'll try that. I love getting wisdom from people that are actually involved in the work needed.
