can't get the anode out to winterize the h/w tank

We have a brand new Suburban water heater in our unit, installed in September. Time to winterize now and I can't get the anode out to drain the tank. Is there another way? Also can anyone confirm the socket size to use? I measured (twice) but 27mm still seems just slightly not snug enough. The guy that installed it must be Hercules, I can't get that puppy to budge at all.
  • He did use teflon. I forgot about the tighten/loosen trick, so I'll have to try that first. If I still can't budge it, I'll have to talk him into a house call!
  • Best to use a six point socket, about a 6 inch extension, breaker bar with cheater.
Yes, and a box a Wheaties!
  • he must not have used Teflon tape. the size socket you need is 1 1/16" and a trick I learned many yeas ago is to tighten the nut just a bit, it should break loose and then you can turn it out, good luck
